This post is about videogames.

I managed to acquire Super Smash Bros Brawl a month prior to its U.S. release, and proceeded to play the living hell out of it, then wave it in front of my friends. The game is great. So far, my best characters are Kirby, Marth, Metaknight, and Snake. I’m kind of disappointed with the level editor to be honest, its options are too limited. I’m not a fan of the unlockable editor pieces either.

I think Smash Bros. Brawl will be more popular than the previous two, given that the Wii is selling so ludicrously and that Brawl will feature online play. Given that no established organization is holding online leagues and tournaments yet, I’m shooting to launch the Smash Professional League. I’m going to talk to Marek about helping me start it, and using some of his contacts to organize an internet tournament with some good prizes. I hope it won’t be a conflict of interest with the TeamWarfare League. You can see a placeholder page at thespl.com

The my other mistress has been Super Mario Galaxy, the most ridiculously addictive Mario yet. The gameplay is unmatched, the graphics are beautiful, and every time I jump to another planet I want to say “Wheeeeeeeeeee” like the Internet Explorer logo on one of those old Firefox campaign videos.

I got all 120 stars as Mario (you only need 60 to beat the game), and with the 100% completion, the game rewarded me with being able to play with the slightly faster and more nimble Luigi. I soon found out that if you get 120 stars with Luigi, there is in fact a 121st star to be found, and so I set out again to collect all of the stars. I’m currently at 45.

The Team Fortress 2 update dropped today, the big one featuring the medic updates and the two new maps. Figures that they’d release it while I was in Granbury, away from my gaming rig. I guess I’ll just have to play it when I get home on Saturday or Sunday.

I went out with Brandi and Patrick to some fancy Korean restaraunt last week. They had some great noodles and sushi, and the crab rangoons were delectable. I followed that up with some mochi. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that I got absolutely reamed on my ticket — it cost me $36 after tip. The waitress thanked me gratuitously for giving her a 20% tip… I suppose people don’t tip too generously after they see what has been wrought on their wallet. With that said, I’ll more than likely come back on some special occassion when I’m not so poor.

Anyways, while I was talking to Patrick, who is one of the better competitive CS Source players, I came up with the idea of a competitve Source mod. Tweaked movement, hit sounds, bright skins, the whole nine yards… it had never really been done on Valve engines before, and they have some of the best feeling controls out there. The competitive duelers are getting shafted (hurr pun), and the team players are constantly getting kicked a notch down by whatever new pubby favoring gameplay mechanic Valve decides to implement. If I could make a mod that catered to these players on the Source engine, it could turn out to be something big.

I have two other projects I want to do… I want to make an episodic well written singleplayer Source mod, each installment featuring one to two hours of gameplay should allow for the team to release them at a decent clip.  As for the other, well I still haven’t quite given up on the social network aggregate.
